Main information about Alprazolam

Alprazolam is a sedating medication of the middle action duration and is derived from benzodiazepines.

This drug slightly inhibits the functions of the central nervous system, and it can even put in a coma if needed. A degree of the therapeutic effect depends on the daily dose and frequency of the usage of the pills.

Due to the ability to inhibit the activity of the central nervous system, Alprazolam is used during different psychological disorders: anxiety, nervousness, panic disorders, insomnia, etc.

If a cause of poor health or severe tremor are not physiological but neurological disorders, Alprazolam will help to relax the central nervous system.

Alprazolam is often used for a short-term treatment of anxiety and concern.

Due to the moderate sedative effect, a period of falling asleep grows down, sleeping is stronger, and hyperactivity disappears which is caused by the mental disorder.

Alprazolam does not do for a long-term treatment because an excessive inhibition of the main functions of the central nervous system may have a negative effect on the general health condition.

Administration and dose of Alprazolam

If light forms of the anxious disorder, patients should take a pill of Alprazolam 0,25 or 0,5 mg 3 times per day with the interval of 8 hours.

If insomnia and panic attacks appear, the dose of Alprazolam is gradually increased.

Patients are usually prescribed a daily dose of Alprazolam 3-6 mg per day (1-2 mg of Alprazolam 3 times per day) the higher doses have less index of the pharmacological safety, and therefore they may be used only under doctor’s supervision.

The pills of Alprazolam (regardless of the daily dose) may be used within 3 months. If the symptoms of the anxiety are not reduced and a normal sleep is not restored, the treatment is continued with the help of other sedative drugs.

Recommendations for the use

  • If you have a stable improvement of the medical signs of the central nervous system diseases, the daily dose may be gradually decreased (by 0,5 mg every 3-4 days) and the treatment is stopped after taking the minimal dose of 0,5 mg per day. Donotstoptaking Alprazolam abruptly. This may cause a withdrawal syndrome and an acute condition of the mental disorder sign.
